Bali is located in the centre of the Indonesian archipelago bordered by the Indian Ocean in the south and the Java Sea in the north. With its 13,677 islands Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world and connects Asia with Australia. Bali with its 5,620 square metres has almost 3,5 million inhabitants, of whom about 600,000 live in Denpasar, the capital. The majority of the population lives in small villages scattered all over the island along paddy fields and rice terraces. From east to west a volcanic mountain range extends itself over the whole island with its highest mountain, the Gunung Agung (3.142 m). Bali, although only two kilometers away from Java, is predominated by the Hindu culture, while the Moslem culture predominates Java.
The Matahari Beach Resort & Spa is located in the unspoilt north-western part of Bali, directly at the black lava sand beach of Pemuteran village. To the north enjoy a spectacular view of the Java Sea, especially at sunrise and sunset. South of the resort bizarre mountain structures rise into the sky and form the natural entrance to Bali Barat National Park. The proximity to Java has resulted in a fascinating blend of Balinese-Hindu and Javanese-Moslem culture, art and religion and is reflected in the daily life of Balinese people.
One common national language was necessary for communication amongst the many different tribes of Indonesia. Annexed to the popular slogan „One country, one nation, one language„ bahasa Indonesia was mentioned the first time during the Indonesian independence movement in the 1920’s.
It is the official language of Indonesia since 1949 - a normative form of the Riau dialect of Malay, and with more than 280 million speakers it is one of the most spoken languages worldwide. The regional Balinese language is commonly used at home and within the local community amongst Balinese natives. The Indonesian name for the language is Bahasa Indonesia (literally "the language of Indonesia"). Foreigners sometimes refer to the language as “Bahasa”, though this simply means "language" and so does not technically specify the Indonesian language.
English is being taught at middle schools as second language and is being spoken by most of the younger generation. Having been a Dutch colony for more than 300 years, Dutch is only spoken among the older educated generation. German, French or Japanese are being taught as 3rd language beginning at high school.
As Bali is situated just below the equator, the climate is tropical.

The MATAHARI BEACH RESORT & SPA is directly located on the coast, there is always a nice cool breeze. The dry season lasts from March to November and the rainy season from November to February, even during the rainy season it seldom rains continuously.
