A visit at our farmers
We are proud that since the opening of Matahari Beach Resort & Spa in 1995 we have been working with local craftsmen, so that our guests could have a feel of the rich cultural heritage of Bali. For example all the carvings you see at the hotel are made by local artists.
The same is true for all our vegetables and fruits. These are produced by local farmers in a traditional way, making use of the best the soil and climate of Bali has to offer.
The mountainous region around Bedugul with its fertile volcanic grounds is home to rich coffee plantations, cloves and fruit trees. Along the northern coastal strip you’ll find some of the finest strains of the original Bali rice.
And you may be surprised, but grapes grow here close to our resort as well, introduced by the Dutch in the hope of producing wine, an ambition finally fulfilled by Hatten wines. Try them at lunch or dinner and you’ll be surprised of the quality. Their Tunjung Brut Sparkling has in 2014 even won the silver medal in Cannes ( France).
For the vegetables and fruits we are working with the enthusiastic farmers Mr. Putu Adi and Mr. Wayan Sarma. They have their farms high in the mountains near Bedugul.
Their traditional and organic (e.g. as fertilizer they use the rice skin) way of cultivating their products have resulted in the most tasteful their vegetables, fruits and herbs which they deliver daily to our kitchen.
